There is no one solution to the problem of the “digital divide”. Every community and region has its own unique set of challenges, needs, and barriers, when it comes to accessing and effectively utilizing digital resources. Because of the unique nature of each community, we believe that solutions must be tailored to fit the culture, structure, and intentions of each individual community. We believe, therefore, that the best solutions start with communication with the stakeholders.
Our research has focused on the different ways we might learn more about each individual community and how we might apply our findings to the development of holistic solutions. We have also looked at some of the successful programs already working to bridge the digital divide in other countries and regions in the hopes of thinking about which pieces of those programs were most successful and might be adapted to a series of programs in upstate New York.
